The California Water Efficiency Partnership seeks a program associate to join its staff and help achieve its mission to maximize urban water efficiency in California. We are a small team with an outsized impact located in downtown Sacramento.

The California Water Efficiency Partnership (CalWEP) is an innovative leader, voice and expert on water efficiency in California. With over 200 members including water agencies, service providers, technology companies, manufacturers, and non-profits. CalWEP’s mission is to maximize urban water efficiency and conservation throughout California. We achieve this goal by:

  • Supporting and integrating innovative technologies and practices

  • Advancing research, training, and public education

What the job entails:

We are seeking a colleague to join our downtown Sacramento-based team as a Program Associate, and we are ready to hire immediately. Reporting directly to CalWEP’s Co-Executive Directors and working closely with our entire team the Program Associate will:

Support CalWEP in designing and executing key member programs, including:

  • Professional training classes (in person and virtual), such as Qualified Water Efficient Landscaping (QWEL) classes, including registration, logistics coordination, and occasional off-site attendance/moderation of classes
  • Development of new resources for CalWEP membership including drafting FAQs, implementation guides, webinars, and event sessions through research and outreach
  • Focus on implementation of California’s new water efficiency laws, SB 606/AB 1668, including attending occasional stakeholder meetings, and developing materials and research for CalWEP membership
  • Coordination and support of CalWEP committees and task forces as needed

Build on our growing communications and outreach strategies, including:

  • Management of CalWEP’s editorial calendar
  • Content development for regularly distributed newsletters
  • Website and member portal updates with news and resources
  • Manage social media presence in partnership with staff

Engage with our growing and diverse statewide membership, including:

  • As needed support to members on a variety of water efficiency topics
  • Representation of CalWEP at partner events across the state and virtually
  • Research related to member prospects via online searches, CalWEP records, and phone calls with staff members

Other duties as assigned. As a small but mighty team we are constantly adapting and responding to our members’ needs. The duties described above are provided as examples and are not to be considered as exclusive or all inclusive.

Your Experience and Qualifications:

A strong candidate will possess the following attributes:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • Work or educational experience in the field of water conservation, water/environmental policy, or water resource management
  • Excellent research and writing skills, including ability to present complex information in a concise manner
  • Ability to work independently as needed; self-motivated
  • Thrive in a deadline-driven work environment
  • Excellent project and time management, administrative skills, follow-through, flexibility, creativity, organization and ability to prioritize tasks appropriately
  • Uphold high levels of accountability for self and for others
  • Work occasional evenings and weekends when deadlines require flexibility
  • Follow multiple sets of instructions provided in a variety of forms, including written, oral, and diagram, to ensure that final materials meet all requirements
  • Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to water conservation
  • Desire to develop deeper understanding of water conservation issues and policy and grow in the conservation and efficiency field
  • Spanish language proficiency preferred but not required
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs, including Excel and PowerPoint
  • Experience with WordPress, Dropbox, Basecamp, Mailchimp, and Salesforce is preferred

Physical Requirements:

Office environment with occasional lifting of up to 30 lbs. Occasional travel by car, plane or other means to meetings in California.

Salary & Benefits:

$50,000 - $60,000 depending on experience. CalWEP offers a competitive benefits package including 401K contributions, medical/dental coverage and paid holiday and sick leave. This is an exempt position.
