At this year’s Peer to Peer event, CalWEP proudly launched a new tradition that honors the individuals and organizations who exemplify what it means to collaborate, support, and innovate in California’s water efficiency community.
Board Chair Charles Bohlig introduced two new honors: the Partner of the Year and the Peer of the Year awards. These recognitions reflect the spirit that drives CalWEP’s mission forward: trust, generosity, and shared impact.
Partner of the Year: Southern California Gas Company
The inaugural Partner of the Year award was presented to Southern California Gas Company (SoCalGas), an organization that has redefined what it means to be a true partner in progress.
SoCalGas doesn’t just co-fund programs. They co-create solutions. Their support has allowed CalWEP to expand hands-on training opportunities for water agencies across Southern California, test new approaches, and strengthen the infrastructure that supports our collective success.
But it’s not just what they fund. It’s how they work. SoCalGas actively participates on CalWEP’s Board and committees, bringing curiosity, collaboration, and thoughtful insight to every conversation. They’ve helped bridge sectors, extend water efficiency into disadvantaged communities, and lead the way in cross-sector partnerships between energy and water.
They listen. They build. They follow through. And they show what’s possible when trust and shared goals guide the work.
We’re honored to recognize SoCalGas as our 2025 Partner of the Year.
Peer of the Year: Amy Talbot, Regional Water Authority
The Peer of the Year award honors an individual whose contributions to the water efficiency field are rooted in generosity, collaboration, and quiet leadership.
This year, the award was presented to Amy Talbot, a long-time CalWEP member whose steady presence and behind-the-scenes impact have touched nearly every corner of our network.
Amy shows up consistently, thoughtfully, and without seeking recognition. Whether building bridges between agencies, mentoring new professionals, or helping the field navigate complexity with clarity and calm, she embodies what it means to be a peer in the truest sense. She brings humility, humor, and heart to everything she does.
As Board Chair Charles Bohlig shared, “Amy, your contributions have shaped this organization in ways that go far beyond what an award can express. But I hope this serves as a reminder of just how deeply valued and loved you are in this community.”
We couldn’t agree more.
