What is Appendix M?

Plumbing Engineer Roy Hunter designed a pipe sizing methodology in the 1940’s. 80 years later, plumbers and architects still use the same “Hunter’s Curve” in designing modern plumbing systems, despite the drastic reduction in flows from modern high-efficiency fixtures.  A new methodology has been developed as Appendix M to the Uniform Plumbing Code, called the Water Demand Calculator, which appropriately sizes pipes to today’s plumbing flows.
