CalWEP is excited to host an online QWEL training for employees of our member organizations. Not sure if your organization is a member? Visit our membership page here.
Schedule: 20-hour training divided into eight 2.5-hour Zoom sessions Monday-Thursday, October 5 -15 from 8:00 a.m.- 10:30 a.m.
The online training will be taught by one of our highly rated QWEL instructors, covering content from the QWEL Reference Manual (California Version). Specific topics covered include:
- Sustainable landscape design principles,
- Soil properties and health,
- Plant water needs,
- Overhead spray irrigation system audits,
- Irrigation system troubleshooting and maintenance, and
- Irrigation system programming and operation.
Attendees are encouraged to download the manual for free here or purchase a paperback copy from Amazon here prior to the class.
Cost:
- Member pricing: $350 (for CalWEP & AWE Members)
- Nonmember pricing: $500
In order to obtain QWEL certification, individuals must complete a virtual irrigation audit (covered in class) and pass the QWEL exam. Exams will be administered online beginning the week of October 19. The exam is open-book.
Those who earn their QWEL certification will have the option to be listed as a Certified Professional on the QWEL and U.S. EPA WaterSense websites and are certified to conduct irrigation system audits for overhead spray.

- Submit payment on CalWEP.org (Current Step)
- Register on QWEL.net (this link will be emailed to you after Step 1 is complete).
Once Steps 1-2 are complete, CalWEP will send you a Zoom calendar invite to join the class sessions.
Instructor: Lori Palmquist
Lori is an irrigation specialist who has worked in the landscape trade for 30 years. She is an irrigation designer, consultant, and educator, and a former irrigation contractor and water manager. She has designed, installed, assessed, repaired, upgraded, and managed hundreds of irrigation systems over the years, and brings a boatload of passion and irrigation geekery to all her professional endeavors.
