State Model Water Efficient Landscape Ordinance Revision Webinar

Tuesday, August 11, 2015

In California, about half of the urban water is used for landscape irrigation. Substantial water savings can be gained by proper landscape design, installation, and maintenance. To improve water savings in this sector, the California Department of Water Resources has updated the Model Water Efficient Landscape Ordinance (MWELO). MWELO promotes efficient landscapes in new developments and retrofitted landscapes.
After receiving public comment on the updated MWELO, DWR brought a revised MWELO to the California Water Commission on July 15, 2015. The Commission approved the revised MWELO, which is now pending final approval from the Office of Administrative Law. Read DWR’s MWELO revision memo, released on August 3, 2015, for details on changes to the ordinance.
In conjunction with DWR and the Local Government Commission, the California Urban Water Conservation Council is hosting a webinar to discuss  the revised MWELO on Tuesday, August 11, from 1:00-2:30 p.m.
Revisions to MWELO and the pending codification of MWELO in CalGreen codes carry important implications for the following audiences:
  1. the building/development community;
  2. the city and county management/planning community; and
  3. the water agency community.
Please find webinar and registration details below, and join us for this timely conversation on outdoor water use ordinances.
